Our weather stayed dry through the middle of October, so the autumn leaves stayed on the trees for a long time. Then when it rained, a whole mess of them came down at once. Piles of wet leaves stayed on the ground for a few days while the sun dried them out. When people raked them, the leaves left impressions–similar to the ones kids make with Sunprint kits, arranging leaves on a piece of light-sensitive paper and setting it out in the sun. Only the leafy outlines on our sidewalks are brown-on-asphalt, like old sepia photographs. It’s really very pretty.
